![]() He is a spectacular actor when given the chance. I recommend that if you have not seen Julian Sands in any of his other films, then watch Warlock, Gothic, or any other number of his films. Deformed since birth, a bitter man known only as the Phantom lives in the sewers underneath the Paris Opera House. Overheated emotions set to Andrew Lloyd Webers purplish music are so. Much of it takes place on a stage and theres very little action - people stand still and sing rather than move, or, well, act. Also, the face of the phantom was exactly as the author imagined it, a death mask, a living skull. It isn't his fault that he got a lousy script for a film that could've been done better. Stream movies like The Phantom of the Opera: The Four Feathers (2002), Les Misrables (2012), The Immigrant (2013). Despite lavish settings and costumes, and sweeping camera movement, the sumptuously produced PHANTOM OF THE OPERA feels static, stuffy, and stagey. Except for the end which was an invention of Hollywood, it was a pleasure to watch this film, which in spite of being silent, conveyed better than I ever expected the original intent. Yet one of the only reasons I bought this film - other than the fact that it was titled Phantom of the Opera - was because of Julian Sands. Yes, Phantom of the Opera has it's major downfalls such as a lousy script, completely needless gore, and even over-dramatized scenes. ![]() If a smaller woman were wearing the same style dress, it would look like it belonged on a Goddess. ![]() I adore the costumes for this movie - such as the overweight Carlotta's dresses. Yet there are several very good points which I will not get into at the moment. I had to special order this movie just to satisfy my curiosity about it! Phantom of the Opera - with Julian Sands - is a remarkable movie, despite it's outrageous amount of downfalls such as cheesy script. ![]() When the star of a London Opera house (Heather Sears) is kidnapped, a producer (Edward de Souza) tracks down the Phantom (Herbert Lom) who is intent on seeking his revenge.
